Power Line Detector app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Pilcrow AG
First release : 09 Jan 2014
App size: 13.75 Mb
Easily detect power lines hidden in your walls!
Power Line Detector is making use of the Magnetometer, that is built in every iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
As you may know, every power line is emitting a magnetic field. The built in magnetometer can be used to detect these magnetic fields.
◆ How it works:
• Remove any cover or frame that contains magnetic or metallic parts from your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. Magnetic and metallic parts are disturbing the measurement!
• Start the App.
• Move your iPhone slowly close to the area where you suspect a power line carrying voltage.
▸If a voltage is present the display will flash and the mG reading grows while the message "Voltage detected" appears.
Note: mG stands for milliGauss, which is used to measure the strength of a magnetic field.
You may want to test it before use by slowly moving it to an area where you are sure there is a voltage present, like the cable running to your room light. Computer and electronic devices are not the best choice to test the fundtion of the app, they are often heavily shielded against magnetic and electric fields (which denies a proper reading since a shielding alwaysx works both ways).
Have fun with this handy tool!
Latest reviews of Power Line Detector app for iPhone and iPad
This app is useless. It detects power lines from 1-2 meters away!!! Completely useless app. Dont get cheated
Looks cool -however once installed (iOS 8.4 /iPhone 6) there are no graphics -just a needle. Moving the phone past a power source moves the needle. Calibration button seems buggy. Needs work.
Beyond a waste of time. Deleted after less than 30 seconds.
The needle moves and the app either vibrates the phone or makes a noise when mead power line but no instruction or a good way to calibrate it. Calibrating at different distances from the power line resulted inter needle either being pegged at full scale or no detection at all. When it detected the line, I could move relatively large distances away from the line and still the needle was pegged at max.
They say this is "Power Line Detector". Why does this impudent app check jail breaking or not first. I think the simple app of using magnetic sensor like this doesnt have any reason to check system environment. Very Ridiculous.
